Hey all,
I just sent out an email through Profs Online mailer…however, I know that several of you do not have or use your KU email account. So, here is what I wrote:
********************
Hey all,
OK…Houston, we have class coverage. After speaking with Dr. Chernekoff, I think we have class coverage for this week. I am not sure who it will be, but it will be, but it will be a living, breathing academic sent to wow you with her/his command of James Berlin’s _Rhetoric, Poetics, and Cultures_. Actually, I don’t know if the person who covers class will know that book well or not. Hence, this email.
So, here’s the deal:
1) finish up Berlin’s text by Wednesday and complete your written response. Come to class on Wednesday with your response. I plan on having the person covering class to have you each read a portion of your response (just like we have done it in the past). Your responses will guide class discussion.
2) By Wednesday, I will have posted the requirements for the “Book Review” on the blog. In short, you are to choose one (1) of the last three books we have read (Graff, Scholes, Berlin) and write a book review of that book. I would encourage you to peruse some academic journals for their book reviews to get a sense of the genre. I will also post some links to help provide some guidance.
3) For Wednesday, 10/29, we will begin reading the Yagelski text. What I would ask is for you to divide into roughly three groups. Each group will be responsible for two (2) of the six (6) articles due that week. Each group will be responsible for writing annotations for those two articles. While you should try and read ALL of the articles for the 29th, you should concentrate on the two your group is reading. Your group will lead class discussion on your two articles.
4) I see that many of you have kept up with the blog postings…excellent. Please make sure you have blogged a response to Berlin…I want to begin responding to your posts online (at least I can try to be VIRTUALLY there!)
I hope all is well and I appreciate your hard work and patience!
Kevin
